About Habitat For Humanity

Habitat for Humanity’s mission is to provide local families with a springboard to stable futures through affordable home–ownership and neighborhood revitalization. Habitat builds affordable homes through volunteer labor, and donations of money and materials. Habitat homes are sold to partner families at no profit and are financed with zero-interest loans. Habitat also provide critical home repair services to low-income, longtime homeowners.

What Volunteers Do

Habitat offers 3 types of volunteering opportunities: (1) It supports home building and repair projects in San Francisco, Redwood City and East Palo Alto.(2) It supports “Playhouse Builds”. If volunteers put up funds (generally around $2000), Habitat will match those funds and provide ALL materials/instruction necessary to construct a playhouse. This provides a great opportunity for families to serve together. (3) It supports RESTORE in San Carlos, where volunteer teams can work on Saturday mornings to triage and tag donated furniture for resale in the store.
