you're not enough

Ezekiel 21:1-22:31
Hebrews 10:1-17
Psalm 108:1-13
Proverbs 27:12

Have you ever been told you're not enough? Have you ever poured so much into your job only to receive constant criticism from your boss? Or maybe a loved one constantly pointed out how you could have done something better? At different points in our lives, we all struggle with not feeling good enough.

Rejection is not a good feeling. We are constantly looking for the approval of our friends, coworkers, family, and God - our perfect Creator. Under the old covenant, people made sacrifices and burnt offerings (not going to lie, I'm really glad we don't have to do that anymore!). However, in our modern world, we still throw things at the altar to show our faith and try to make our way into heaven. We volunteer for the church, donate to charities, dig wells in third world countries, read our devotions and continue to try.

However, nothing we do can make Him love us more than he already does. Our sacrifices will never be good enough to do what Christ did on the cross for us - under the new covenant. Hebrews 1:17 tells us that God "will never again remember our sins and lawless deeds." Isn't that so encouraging?

So even though you and I are not enough, that's ok. Because Christ is enough. His sacrifice is enough. You and I can rest assured that we will continue to fall short daily but he loves us anyway.

To Memorize:

“This is the new covenant I will make
with my people on that day, says the Lord:
I will put my laws in their hearts,
and I will write them on their minds.”

—Hebrews 1:16

Prayer to start with: Thank you for your love Lord. I can wake up and know that even though I will fall short, your sacrifice on the cross will cover my shortcomings. Amen.
