Jeremiah 4:19-6:15
Colossians 1:18-2:7
Psalm 77:1-20
Proverbs 24:23-25

God is Love. He loved me first and cared for me so deeply that he sacrificed His son to atone for my sins. He is gracious, welcoming and forgiving.

What does it mean for us to love Him? When we know the true character of God, can we choose to behave however we want? Doesn’t loving God mean that we act in ways that honor Him? Although we know this, it’s easier to live according to our desires. But what if we stopped for one moment today and remembered the character of God. What He loves and hates. What if before we acted, before we spoke, even before we prayed, we stopped to remember God’s character. Would we still engage in that argument? Would we still treat the homeless person at the intersection with disregard? How would we use our earthly treasures of money, our talents and time? The Bible passages today remind us of the character of God. He is patient, merciful and gives multiple warnings but awaits repentance. He is supremely powerful and all knowing. He loves and speaks the truth. He loves justice and hates deceit. He is compassionate to our distress. God answers our groans when we are too troubled to utter words. He is a miracle worker and provider. He waits for us with love and grace.

To Memorize:

I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.

— Psalm 77:11-12

Prayer to start with: God, thank you for creating me in your image. Help me turn away from my sins. Thank you for your mercy, grace and welcome as I draw nearer to you. Help me honor you with my life and love you more each day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
