"I want to know Christ". This is Paul's heart's desire in Philippians 3:10a. Everything else in his life he considers garbage -- what he strives for is simply to know Christ and become more like him. Don't we all want this? To know our Creator God -- how infinite he is, and yet so intimate. We know God longs to have a relationship with us. Jesus says in Matthew 11:28, " Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." What a sweet invitation. I don't know about you, buy lately I have felt weary and burdened, anxious and overwhelmed. I certainly need the peace God offers to give my soul rest. Another promise I love is James 4:8, "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you."
If we really want to know Christ, we need to spend time with him. Be intentional with your time with the Lord. Sit with him and read His word, share with him what's on your heart in prayer. Be Still and listen as he reveals himself to you.
So what gets in the way from knowing Christ?
Do past failures hold you back, or perhaps pride, or are you simply too busy to spend time with him? Paul gives us great advice when he says, "One thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining towards what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."
Let's all Press On...
“As surely as my new heavens and earth will remain,
so will you always be my people,
with a name that will never disappear,”
says the Lord.
— Isaiah 66:22
Prayer to start with: Oh Abba Father, I want to know you. Help me Lord to be more intentional with nurturing our relationship. Reveal yourself as I draw near to you. Transform me Lord, so that I may display your love, patience, grace, strength, and wisdom.
