boast in your weakness

2 Corinthians 12:1-10
In today's reading, Paul talks about a thorn in his side. He has asked God repeatedly to take it away but simply put, God said no. So then Paul says, "That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong" 2 Cor. 12:10.
How many of us take please in our weaknesses? Or are we like Paul and ask God repeatedly to take away our troubles? I know I have! But God told Paul, "My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness." 2 Cor. 12:9
Through hardships, problems, and our time in the valley, God's power works best! Not when we are on the mountain top. Not whenever everything is hunky-dory. Not whenever everything is all sunshine and rainbows. But in the valley! The dry, lonely, desolate valley.
What is God working on in you while you may be in the valley? Have you sincerely asked him that lately? It's a hard question to ask, I know. Isn't it tough to face the hard questions? A friend recommended a book lately and it led me to find, The Emotionally Healthy Woman. It asked me some hard questions and brought in scripture to help me learn some things I need to quit doing so that God's power can work best while I am weak.
Listen to my prayer, O God.
Do not ignore my cry for help!
Please listen and answer me,
for I am overwhelmed by my troubles.
— Psalm 55:1-2
Prayer to start with: God. I am so weak. I need your grace in this season. I don't know how to do it on my own anymore. I need you more than ever. I'm a sinner and I need your grace.
