2 Corinthians 1:12-2:11
When I was in college, I was in the University Choir and Orchestra. One year we sang a rendition of the hymn How Firm a Foundation. With rehearsal and concerts, we probably sang it at least a hundred times. That particular semester, I felt like God had forsaken me and didn’t hear me, I felt abandoned. There was one particular verse that made me sob (literally) every time we sang it and it was this one:
When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie,
My grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply.
The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design
Thy dross to consume and thy gold to refine
Job 23:10 says “But he knows the way that I take; when he has tried me, I shall come out as gold.” Job just lost everything and he was still able to stand on this truth. I think it’s safe to say that the majority of us have some trials we are going through right now, but our God is so much greater than anything this world tries to throw at him. It’s hard to remember that God is for us when he doesn’t seem to do anything or hear anything we say. Read Job 26 for a reminder of how great and mighty our God is. And remember that “[You] shall come out as gold.”
Because of my integrity you uphold me and set me in your presence forever. Praise be to the Lord, the God if Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.
— Psalm 41:12-13
Prayer to start with: Lord, give me the strength to endure. Remind me that you are with me even when it feels like you are not. Show me where you are and speak to me your truth. Have your way in my heart and in my life. In Jesus name, Amen.
