1 Corinthians 1:18-2:5
Believe it or not, but I’m not actually the smartest person you’ve ever met. Sure, I was the Salutatorian in my 8th Grade class.. but the Valedictorian topped that (obviously). I’m also not the most wise or influential… It’s shocking, I know. But I also know I wouldn’t have it any other way.
This is not to say that I’m not all about education, enrichment, and personal growth. I’m an educator and a parent, so I’m definitely on board for these, but I know who I am and I absolutely know my limits.
And where my human knowledge and skills end, God’s hand absolutely takes over.
If we boast, let us boast in the Lord. Like Paul writes to those in our passage in 1 Corinthians, let’s not let our faith “rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.” And this should absolutely be the case in our calling to share the message of Christ crucified, and the grace and salvation we have in Him.
While most of us are at home in a world that is so much different than what we hope for and even remember, we are still called to be lights for Him, and to share this light in a dark world that is still far away from Him. We are still to be witnesses. And if you’re anything like me, figuring out how to do that in a way that matches the times in a socially distanced manner… That takes some real smarts and real wisdom. Good thing I’m smart enough to know that it isn’t just up to me to figure that out. And I’m even more glad to know who is.
He must become greater; I must become less.
— John 3:30
Prayer to start with: Father, today and everyday: take the wheel. I’m happy to know that you know better than me, and I need your help to realize this when I don’t want to. Thank you for the love and grace You have for me, and help me to have the same for others. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
