worst case scenarios

2 Chronicles 11:1-13:22
Romans 8:26-39
Psalm 18:37-50
Proverbs 19:27-29

When I was very young, I learned the phrase, “worst case scenario”.  I would build a defense for myself using that phrase from a worry or fear that I had.  I could very effectively talk myself down by going through this exercise. For instance, “Worst case scenario”: my house is destroyed in an earthquake. We have no money to rebuild. Well, we could pitch a tent and live on our lot!”  Or, this “worst case scenario”: the world is a mess, war torn etc…but I can still look up and see a blue sky! Or, maybe not a blue sky, but a sky nonetheless!

Romans 8 has blown my W.C.Scenarios out of the water! Rather than the bleak endings mine have, we are told in the darkest of circumstances (tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, danger or sword) we are “More than Conquerors”! With the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, we are helped  in our weakness and He intercedes for us. Our God causes ”all” things to work together for good for those who love Him! He Chose us and loves us! He is Conforming us into the image of His son! All of our “Worst Case Scenarios” are being orchestrated by God, to accomplish His purposes!

My ultimate WC scenario is death. And we Christians know and are  Convinced (*in process of being convinced, mine) that “Nothing can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” That scenario is pretty glorious!!!

To memorize:

"...If God is for us, who can be against us?"

Romans 8:31

Prayer to start with: Oh God, when our anxieties and circumstances threaten to overwhelm us, help us to always remember that You Chose Us! You love us and are working all things in our lives for good! Help us to be convinced of this promise as we look forward to becoming more like our beloved Lord Jesus Christ.
