what is good?

2 Samuel 1:1-2:11
When you think of “good”, what do you think of? Like, what, to you, in this present moment, is GOOD? For me, I’d say it’s waking with the sun (I know, crazy!), walking in the sunshine along the Marina Green, kicking off my day with sincere and focused quiet time. I mean, these are good things! They keep me sane and offer respite.
What I don’t find “good” and, honestly, downright infuriating is my internet going out first thing in the morning! Because on days when I stay under my covers and don’t wake at dawn (most) and forgo the walk because I can do it tomorrow (often) and want to dive straight into my emails, I need my internet to work. Yes, I have every intention of starting my day with prayer and Bible study… BUT THE EMAILS! And then I’ll get to those good things, am I right?!
“Give thanks to the Lord for HE is good.” I had been putting off my quiet time for days, scattered in my thinking and not connecting with the important things that truly did need to get done first thing in the morning. So, He made the time for me. Without the internet these days, we’re kinda locked out of the world so I paused and dove into my study. There was nothing left to do, no temporal “goodness” left for me to pursue in that moment, than to sit at His feet.
We’re told we have so much more time these days… How are we using it? Do we find ourselves pulled to our God who desires to show us His goodness and glory at every turn? He is what will endure past any hardship or trial; past new gardens and sourdough recipes and new languages. This morning, let’s honestly take a minute to pause and spend time savoring His goodness. His love sustains and endures.
You are my God, and I will praise you;
you are my God, and I will exalt you.
— Psalm 118:28
Prayer to start with: Lord you are so good and I thank you. You grant me all my success and to you be the glory for it all. You have blessed me tremendously and I exalt you. Amen.
