Deuteronomy 18:1-20:20
Luke 9:28-50
Psalm 73:1-28
Proverbs 12:10

God cares about us trusting Him for victory because when we obey, especially against the odds, He delivers.  Trust leads to wonder: “Did you just see what He did?!” (my translation of Psalm 73:28b).

When the Israelites confront an “army greater than [theirs]”, God charges, “Do not fear or panic or be in dread of them, for the Lord your God is He who goes with you…to give you the victory.”  The disciples fail this charge in spiritual battle; their lack of faith prevents them from casting out the demon. Jesus responds, “O faithless and twisted generation, how long am I to be with you and bear with you?” While God never shames us for our fear, His exasperation reflects how utterly unnecessary it is.

Fear hinders us from obedience in service and righteousness.  When we serve, we see God provide. When we are pure of heart, we see God.  Obedience looks different for each of us during the coronavirus twilight zone. Our battles vary: mental illness, unemployment, high-risk health or jobs etc..We need the wisdom to determine our personal battles and strength to obey.

Today’s passages argue our faith rises in knowing God’s presence and power in our past, present, and future.  Remember His mighty deeds (Deut. 20:20). Know He is guiding and strengthening us (Ps 73:23-24). Consider our end;  He will receive us to glory and be our portion forever (Ps 73:24,26).

He is the Alpha and Omega redeeming the groaning cosmos. Take heart!

Love, Amanda

To memorize:
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is
the strength of my heart and my portion
forever.
